Polymers in 5G Mobile Phones by Jeff Gotro, Ph.D., InnoCentrix, LLC

Polymers in 5G Mobile Phones

Jeff Gotro, Ph.D.

InnoCentrix, LLC

Wednesday, September 30,   Webinar 6:30 PM Pacific time

The introduction of 5G for mobile phones will drive significant innovation in the polymers used in mobile phones. Currently available 5G phones work at sub 6 GHz frequencies and required minimal changes in the polymers used in the electronic packaging. The migration to frequencies greater than 25 GHz will require new materials. The presentation will provide an overview of the infrastructure roadmap (base stations) and discuss the key polymers used in electronics packaging. Low dielectric loss polymers will be a key enabler for in 5G mmWave antenna-in-package (AiP). Additionally, high-performance dielectrics, encapsulants, and laminate substrates will be required to support the advanced packages such as fan-out packages. Examples will be presented demonstrating high performance polymer-based materials that will enable faster signal speed, lower loss, and higher performance and reliability in 5G smart phones.

Speaker Background:

Dr. Gotro is the Founder and President of InnoCentrix* and is a nationally-recognized authority in thermosetting polymers. He has over 35 years of experience in polymers used in electronics, having held scientific and leadership positions at IBM, AlliedSignal, Honeywell International, and Ablestik Laboratories. During his career, Jeff has commercialized over $100 million in new products used in electronic packaging applications. He has published 60 technical papers in the field of polymeric materials for advanced electronic packaging applications (including 4 book chapters, one on “Thermosets” in the Encyclopedia of Polymer Science and Technology, 2017), holds 15 issued US patents, and has 4 patents pending. Dr. Gotro is a Fellow of the International Microelectronics Assembly and Packaging Society (IMAPS) and in 2014 received the John A. Wagnon Technical Achievement award for his numerous technical contributions in the field of polymers in electronic packaging.

*Polymer and innovation experts at InnoCentrix provide a wide range of consulting services to growth-oriented companies that use polymers to gain a competitive advantage.

EVENT DATE: Wednesday, September 30

Registration deadline: Monday, September 28, 1:00 PM.

Registration may close earlier than the nominal deadline if capacity is reached.

This event will be FREE OF CHARGE, but we still require you to fill out the registration form. In particular, we need to have your name and email address for you to be able to participate.

If you can spare a small amount, GGPF requests an optional donation of $5 (or more!) but this is not required to register and attend the webinar.

To donate, use the pull down toggle: where it says "choose an option" instead of the "all registrants $0.00" use the toggle to select "GGPF donation $5.00". This will direct you to a link where you can use PayPal or any credit or debit card. For larger donations, use the "Donate to GGPF" link on the front page

Webinar Timing: Start Time 6:30 PM.

(Zoom meeting room will open earlier)

Attendees who complete registration form will receive information by email for how to participate. It is requested that people join the meeting invitation well before 6:30 to avoid delays.

Please register on the web page,

Or, if necessary, contact:
