2.5 Day Live Virtual Short Course
September 9, 10 and 11 (half day)
Sponsored by the Golden Gate Polymer Forum.
Course Description
This course will provide an interdisciplinary introduction to foams, microcellular structures, lattice architectures, and metamaterials, with a thread of sustainability woven throughout the lectures. Dematerialization represents a critical step in sustainability to reduce polymer consumption without compromise to performance; thus, the lectures will collectively address fundamental polymer science as applied to emerging directions for polymeric foams, aerogels, latticed architectures, and meta materials. Polyurethanes, polyureas, and poly (urethane ureas) will serve as common compositional platforms for the course, although extension to other polymeric compositions will serve to demonstrate the versatility of overarching structure-property-processing relationships. Lectures will emphasize polymer structure and design, physical properties, and advanced processing with a focus on complementary foaming and additive manufacturing processes. Our focus will include efforts to enhance sustainability with the concept of dematerialization, nature-inspired design, and more sustainable additive manufacturing processes to complement legacy manufacturing modalities. Course content is aimed towards a general technical audience, inviting new and experienced scientists and engineers in industrial, national laboratory, and university settings. The lectures will be supplemented with class notes, research highlights, and dedicated time for Q&A and discussion. Some previous exposure to polymer science and basic chemistry concepts, especially basic organic chemistry, would help provide maximum value to attendees, but no prior experience with the specific focus topics is necessary.

Registration Details
(1) Begin the registration process by using the form below. After you have completed all the required information, click "Submit" at the bottom of the page. This will take you to a page where you can review your information, then click "Confirm Registration". If someone other than the attendee is filling out the registration form, please ensure that it is the attendee's name and contact information in the appropriate fields in the registration.
(2) You will be asked to choose to pay by Credit Card (via PayPal) or Check. We are requesting that all short course registrations choose the Credit Card option. Please note: if you do not have or do not want to use your own PayPal account, you can use your own credit card or debit card directly through the form.
Click on the "PayPal" icon. This will redirect you to the PayPal website where you can submit your credit card information and complete the payment process. A PayPal account is not necessary. If you do not have a PayPal account, or if you do not wish to use one which you may already have, do not use the "login" option at the PayPal website; select "Pay with Debit or Credit Card" instead.
