Abstract:
Composites using advanced polymers and reinforcements are a key enabler in the field of electronics packaging. Specifically, thermoset polymers are used extensively to “package” electronic components. An electronic package is used to connect the semiconductor chip to either substrates or printed circuit boards. Interestingly, polymer composites have an increasing impact on the electrical, mechanical, and thermal performance of electronic devices. Speakers Background:
Jeff Gotro, Ph.D., is the President and Founder of InnoCentrix, LLC, a consulting company serving the polymer industry. Dr. Gotro has over forty years of experience in polymers including polymers used in electronic packaging, having held scientific and leadership positions at IBM, AlliedSignal, Honeywell International, National Starch Electronic Materials, and InnoCentrix. Dr. Gotro has authored or co-authored 66 technical papers and 6 book chapters including a chapter on Thermosets in the Encyclopedia of Polymer Science. Dr. Gotro holds 15 issued US patents. He was awarded the IMAPS John Wagnon Technical Achievement Award and is an IMAPS Fellow. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science from Marquette University and a Ph.D. in Materials Science from Northwestern University with a specialty in polymer science (polymer chemistry, physics, and characterization).
